Breaking down Mekhi Becton and all of the other key studs and duds from New York Jets’ preseason shutout in Carolina

For the second consecutive week, all eyes were on Mekhi Becton. As the New York Jets headed down to Carolina for their second preseason game, fans hoped to see Becton stay on the field for a much higher number of snaps after he could only manage seven of them in the opener.

And Becton did just that. Coming in as the second-team left tackle, Becton managed to play 27 offensive snaps with no issues. But how well did he actually play? The film tells the story.

The full, member-only Jets vs. Panthers film breakdown can be found at the bottom of this article (must be a Jets X-Factor member and logged into the site).

Of course, Becton was not the only player who had a role in the Jets’ 27-0 shutout win.

Who else was leading the charge in Carolina?

Zach Wilson continued to show progress and built upon his game in Cleveland. He appeared more confident in himself and the playbook while looking more comfortable in the pocket. But just how good was Wilson? And should we buy stock in Wilson as a reliable QB2?

Wilson was aided by a few position groups, one being the offensive line. Starters Connor McGovern and Laken Tomlinson seemed to have good performances, but how good? Can Jets fans trust them as starters going into Week 1?

Past the offense, the defense dominated, pitching a shutout. The defensive line was specifically impressive, as they pressured Panther signal callers all day.

Jermaine Johnson, Will McDonald, Bryce Huff, and Quinton Jefferson all made their impact felt – quite literally (Bryce Young was certainly feeling it the next morning). But even past the above players, many of the guys who are fighting for roster spots also made a ton of plays. From Deslin Alexandre to Bruce Hector and Pita Taumoepena, the Jets were all flying around the field.

  • Who else stood out on both offense and defense?
  • Did Joe Tippmann have another good game?
  • How do the young LBs look?
  • Is Michael Carter back?

All of these questions and many more are answered on this edition of Blewett’s Blitz!
