The New York Jets activated veteran offensive lineman Duane Brown in a flurry of roster moves on Thursday
The New York Jets are getting some reinforcements along their offensive line for Black Friday.
In a flurry of roster moves, the team activated veteran offensive tackle Duane Brown from injured reserve and elevated offensive lineman Xavier Newman to the active roster.
Offensive lineman Chris Glaser was released, while offensive lineman Jake Hanson and defensive lineman Tanzel Smart were elevated to the active roster from the practice squad.
Roster moves:
– Activated OL Duane Brown and signed OL Xavier Newman to the active roster
– Released OL Chris Glaser
– Elevated OL Jake Hanson and DL Tanzel Smart for tomorrow's game— New York Jets (@nyjets) November 23, 2023
Brown, 38, has been out since September with a hip injury. Thursday was the last day for Brown to be activated, or he would have reverted to injured reserve and been ruled out for the remainder of the season.
Newman, who missed last week’s game against Buffalo, has appeared in two games for the Jets this season. The Baylor product has appeared at center and right guard for the team this season.
Glaser, who was released by the Jets, started in place of Newman last week against the Bills.
It is a positive development that the Jets are getting reinforcements along the offensive line. The unit has been decimated by injuries, with the latest being an ankle injury for Mekhi Becton that leaves him uncertain for Friday’s game.
Brown did not perform well in his two weeks of game action this season. He was constantly getting beat by edge rushers and causing the quarterback to be pressured.
Still, getting Brown back should help elevate a unit potentially utilizing an eighth combination of players to start a game this season. For the Jets to beat the Dolphins, they need every healthy player they can get.
