NFL Week 16 Schedule at ESPN Bet
Of course, the Thursday night game between the Los Angeles Rams and New Orleans Saints is behind us, as are the two Saturday matchups, but there’s still plenty of action ahead.
For instance, around these parts, fans will be somewhat invested in the New York Jets‘ matchup against the Washington Commanders. Zach Wilson’s slated to miss this one—as is Aaron Rodgers—but the Commanders present an actual opportunity for this Jets offense to do something positive.
Monday night’s tilt brings us a Christmas night epic between the San Francisco 49ers and Baltimore Ravens.
- New York Jets vs. Washington Commanders (Sunday)
- Minnesota Vikings vs. Detroit Lions (Sunday)
- Houston Texans vs. Cleveland Browns (Sunday)
- Carolina Panthers vs. Green Bay Packers (Sunday)
- Tennessee Titans vs. Seattle Seahawks (Sunday)
- Atlanta Falcons vs. Indianapolis Colts (Sunday)
- Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. Jacksonville Jaguars (Sunday)
- Miami Dolphins vs. Dallas Cowboys (Sunday)
- Chicago Bears vs. Arizona Cardinals (Sunday)
- Denver Broncos vs. New England Patriots (Sunday)
- Kansas City Chiefs vs. Las Vegas Raiders (Monday)
- Philadelphia Eagles vs. New York Giants (Monday)
- San Francisco 49ers vs. Baltimore Ravens (Monday)
Can the Denver Broncos End the Streak?
Everyone laughs at the New York Jets and their long playoff drought—now standing at 13 years—but the Denver Broncos aren’t that far behind.
Denver holds the NFL’s second-longest playoff drought at seven years. It’s tied for the seventh-longest playoff drought in all of American sports, with the Charlotte Hornets of the NBA and the Detroit Red Wings of the NHL.
Sean Payton was brought in specifically to end this drought. With Russell Wilson at quarterback and a ready-made defense, it was supposed to be a somewhat easy task (in some pundits’ eyes). It hasn’t turned out that way, but the Broncos still have a legitimate chance to end the streak this season.
With games against the New England Patriots, Los Angeles Chargers, and Las Vegas Raiders left this season, it would be a massive disappointment if they didn’t finish the season at 10-7. If that happens, the Broncos are given an 80% chance to make the playoff according to the New York Times simulations. However, if they lose just one of those games and fall to 9-8, that drops to just 8%.
Every game from here on out is a playoff game for this team, and after losing two of the last three, they’re starting to slip back into the poor form they featured to start the season.
This is why Payton and Wilson are here, though. If they can’t break the streak this season, it’s fair to wonder if this era of Broncos football was simply a waste of time, money, and draft picks.
New England Patriots vs. Denver Broncos ESPN Bet Odds
It should be no surprise that the Denver Broncos are massive favorites in this one. After all, the New England Patriots are so bad this year that it may end up costing Bill Belichick his job.
ESPN Bet has Denver as a 7-point favorite in this one. They’re given -350 odds to come out with the victory. Meanwhile, the Patriots are given +280 odds to pull off the massive upset.
This won’t be the first time that Sean Payton has faced Belichick in the post-Brady era. The first time came in 2021 when the New Orleans Saints walloped the Pats, 28-13.
Mac Jones threw three interceptions that day, but the Saints offense was limited to just 110 total passing yards. It’ll be interesting to see if this game follows a similar pattern.
