Baker Mayfield and Monday Night Football
Baker Mayfield has always loved the spotlight. Ever since he was playing for the Oklahoma Sooners, you could just see it. He had a brash big attitude made for the big moments.
That’s why it’s so surprising that he’s one of the worst Monday Night Football quarterbacks in the NFL.
Mayfield won his first-ever Monday Night Football game way back in 2019. He decimated the hometown New York Jets, 23-3. Since then, though, he’s lost five games in a row.
His 1-5 record on Monday Night Football leaves a lot to be desired, to say the least.
However, wins aren’t solely a quarterback stat. So, perhaps his defenses let him down on Monday Night right? Wrong.
In his last five Monday night outings, Mayfield is completing 51.6% of his passes, for 177 yards per game, 6 TD, and 7 INT.
That includes a Monday Night stinker at home against the Philadelphia Eagles earlier this season. Philadelphia dominated the game 25-11, and that was with lackluster play from Jalen Hurts, who threw 2 INT.
With the injuries Philadelphia is facing right now, the Bucs have a real shot to get the win tonight. But that can only happen if Mayfield gets over this Monday Night Football funk he’s been mired in for the majority of his NFL career.
ESPN Bet odds: Philadelphia Eagles vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Even with all of their injuries, the Eagles are the 3-point road favorites in this one. They’re given -155 odds to win the game outright. Meanwhile, the Bucs are given +135 odds to pull off the upset.
That’s a pretty big difference from their September Monday night matchup when the Eagles were 6-point road favorites and covered in their victory against Tampa Bay. This shows how much ESPN Bet believes the injuries have evened the playing field.
Still, points are expected to be scored today. The point total is currently set at over/under 43.5.
Normally, that point total is a sure lock with an elite Philly offense involved, but perhaps not this time. After all, Tampa Bay has hit the under on that point total in each of their last three games.
