Nobody could top what Garrett Wilson did in Week 1

An iconic play from the New York Jets’ 2023 season opener has earned further recognition.

On Thursday, the NFL tweeted a video highlighting the top 10 catches of the 2023 season. While there were other worthy candidates, the top spot was given to the Jets’ Garrett Wilson. The winning play was from Week 1, where Wilson used one hand to deflect the ball away from the defender, hit it up to himself, and secure the catch in one motion.

The Jets posted a tweet showcasing the phenomenal play from various angles to commemorate the accomplishment.

Offensive tackle Mekhi Becton also posted a tweet congratulating Wilson for having the best catch of the past NFL season.

Although it occurred in Week 1, the play encapsulates the elite ability that Wilson showcases every game. He has incredible body control, making adjustments that other receivers cannot physically accomplish. Wilson also has excellent hands and concentration, allowing him to bring in passes that seem uncatchable.

Combine these skills with his above-average route running, and it makes sense why the former Ohio State product has racked up two straight seasons of over 1,000 yards despite the worst quarterback situation in football.

With Aaron Rodgers back in the fold, Wilson’s prospects in 2024 look extremely promising. The former Packers’ quarterback was able to elevate Davante Adams to a superstar level in the past. With a player that could be just as talented in Wilson, the ceiling is sky-high for the duo next season.

Wilson produced at a high level and made one of the best plays of 2023 with a poor quarterback situation. With average to above-average play at the position in 2024, Wilson has a great chance to make more than just the best catches list.
