In an article from the Associated Press, Rees-Zammit explained why he is pursuing a career in the NFL.
“It’s always been on my mind. My dad has been a massive role model to me because he brought me up loving the sport. He played the sport when he was younger, so it’s quite easy to love the game because I’ve been watching it since I was young. So, it’s always been in the back of my head, but it’s just amazing to finally do it now.”
Additionally, the article said that the rugby star is practicing as a running back, receiver, and returner.
While not likely a primary target for the team, Rees-Zammit’s speed is appealing. Standing at 6-foot-3, he could be a developmental piece at wide receiver or as a versatile offensive weapon.
According to Pro Football Talk, the NFL recently added a 17th practice squad slot for international players that has roster exemptions for the offseason and training camp. This makes the prospect of adding an international player much more appealing to teams.
Rees-Zammit may not become a star player, but with his speed and skill, he could be worth a flyer for New York in the late rounds or as a UDFA.
