One of the New York Jets’ all-time defenders was inducted into the Senior Bowl Hall of Fame on Wednesday
A former New York Jets legend was given another honor on Wednesday afternoon.
Announced in a post on X, Jets legend Marty Lyons was inducted into the Senior Bowl Hall of Fame. Lyons joined other players, such as former Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer and former Falcons wide receiver Roddy White, as inductees for 2024.

Lyons used the event to help propel him in the draft, as the Jets took him with the 14th pick in the 1979 NFL Draft. He had an extremely productive career with the team, registering 29 sacks and eight fumble recoveries.
In New York, Lyons was a part of the famous “New York Sack Exchange,” along with Hall-of-Famer Joe Klecko, Mark Gastineau, and Abdul Salaam.
While he is a Jets legend on the field and a member of the team’s Ring of Honor, Lyons has made just as significant an impact off it.
He created the Marty Lyons Foundation, which grants wishes for children who are terminally ill or have life-threatening conditions. His work with his organization helped Lyons win the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award in 1984 and the Heisman Humanitarian Award in 2011.
It is excellent to see Lyons get honored for his career by the Senior Bowl. Whether considering his play on the field or his gigantic contributions off of it, the New York Jets legend is well worth the distinction awarded to him on Wednesday.
