The New York Jets added a second running back on Day 3 of the draft, adding South Dakota State's Isaiah Davis.

After selecting Braelon Allen, the Jets went with another running back in South Dakota State’s Isaiah Davis

The New York Jets continue to emphasize the offensive side of the ball, as they have now double-dipped at the running back position.

After drafting Wisconsin’s Braelon Allen, the Jets selected South Dakota State’s Isaiah Davis with the 173rd overall pick.

Davis, 22, is another bruising and downhill running back, much like Allen. The South Dakota State product had 4,552 yards and 50 touchdowns in his four college seasons. He had 2,884 yards after contact and 205 missed tackles forced.

With the selections of Davis and Allen following the offseason additions of power-blockers John Simpson and Morgan Moses, it seems clear the Jets are looking to establish a powerful and aggressive identity on offense. They evidently want to run the ball downhill and establish their will, which would allow them to punish defenses off play action with Aaron Rodgers.

The moves may also mean trouble for Izzy Abanikanda. The Athletic’s Zach Rosenblatt said that the former University of Pittsburgh running back may have to fight for a roster spot.

Ultimately, the majority of the Jets’ offensive additions this offseason have shifted toward a distinct identity of powerful, smash-mouth football.

After adding Allen and Smith, the Jets seem ready to enforce their new identity.
