Breaking down Jordan Travis’ strengths and weaknesses on film

After trading Zach Wilson, the New York Jets’ quarterback room was left without a player under 34 years old. This made the Jets a strong candidate to select a developmental quarterback late in the 2024 NFL draft.

The Jets did just that, taking Florida State’s Jordan Travis in the fifth round. Travis slipped due to a number of factors – most notably his age (already 24 years old) and a serious ankle injury that he is still recovering from – but he was having a strong 2023 season prior to his injury. Travis led Florida State to an 11-0 start while accumulating 27 total touchdowns (20 passing, 7 rushing) compared to just two interceptions. He also completed 63.9 percent of his passes and averaged 8.5 yards per attempt.

With the Jets, Travis enters a perfect situation for a young quarterback. He is the third-string quarterback and will not be expected to play any reps this year barring an emergency. On top of that, he will have the opportunity to learn from two seasoned veteran quarterbacks who have combined for 323 NFL appearances.

As a fifth-round pick, though, there are plenty of weaknesses in Travis’ game that must be ironed out before he can be considered a viable option for the Jets, even as a backup. However, Travis’ success at Florida State showed that he does have the potential to become a quality NFL player if his development goes according to plan.

In the newest Blewett’s Blitz film review, we break down 48 plays from Travis’ career with Florida State. The review showcases a complete synopsis of both the positives and the negatives in his game, helping us understand the keys to his development. Plus, a full list of his strengths and weaknesses can be found at the bottom of the page.
