The Detroit Tigers took a low blow at the New York Jets’ starting quarterback

Teams outside the NFL are getting their jabs in at Aaron Rodgers, too.

At their Sunday matchup against the Milwaukee Brewers, the Detroit Tigers showed an interesting statistic on the scoreboard. The team, asking who had more completions in 2023, compared New York Jets’ quarterback Aaron Rodgers and Detriot Lions linebacker Jalen Reeves-Maybin. The linebacker was shown to have more completions than Rodgers, beating him by one.

The statistic shown at the game is interesting, to say the least. Reeves-Maybin’s 2023 completion came against the Cowboys, as he converted a first down off a fourth-down fake punt. It is a highly arbitrary statistic to reference during a baseball game in June.

More importantly than that, it is a weirdly timed jab to throw at Rodgers. While he tormented the hometown Lions for the better part of a decade and a half, the future Hall-of-Famer now plays for a team not in their conference or division. The jab also references a season that Rodgers missed due to injury, as the quarterback tore his Achilles four plays into the season. With the added context, the statistic seems to be making fun of the quarterback’s injury-shortened year.

Was the statistic made by a scorned Lions fan who wanted to poke fun at their former tormentor? Was it created to drive attention, as Rodgers is always a hot-button topic? It remains to be seen if either of these is the case.

Rodgers is not above criticism, as he has said or done many things that have warranted the comments made toward him. However, the quarterback could not control getting injured on the field in 2023, making the jab that Detroit’s baseball team made about him confusing and potentially in bad taste.
