Hayes played one game for the Jets in 2023, recording two tackles in the team’s Week 6 win over the Philadelphia Eagles. He played 13 snaps on defense and 10 on special teams. The Jets called up Hayes from their practice squad due to injuries to Sauce Gardner and D.J. Reed.
Hayes, 26, was a two-star recruit coming out of high school. After attending Appalachian State, Hayes went undrafted and was signed by the Jacksonville Jaguars. He’s bounced around in the NFL, appearing in regular season games for the Jaguars, Jets, Miami Dolphins, Carolina Panthers, Minnesota Vikings, and New England Patriots. Hayes also spent time on the practice squads of the Arizona Cardinals, Detroit Lions, and Baltimore Ravens, in addition to a UFL stint with the Birmingham Stallions.
Hayes joined the Jets in October 2023 after being signed to the practice squad. His Week 6 appearance against Philadelphia was his only one of the year; he spent the rest of the season on the practice squad. The Jets later signed Hayes to a reserve/future contract in January.
Throughout his NFL career, Hayes has recorded 18 tackles, two passes defended, and one fumble recovery in 14 games. He has played 55 snaps on special teams and 220 snaps on defense.
