A former New York Jets employee is suing the team for the use of their new logo
A former New York Jets employee is attempting to get paid for creating the team’s current logo.
As stated in an article from the New York Post, Jim Pons is reportedly suing the team and the NFL for “unspecified damages” over the Jets using the logo he designed in the 1970s.

“Pons claims in the suit, according to TMZ, that he owns the logo and that he came up with the design outside the scope of his job when he was employed with the team,” said Christian Arnold, the author of the article.
Additionally, the Jets gave a comment to the NY Post, saying that the logo “has been registered with the United States Patent and Trademark Office for nearly 50 years” and that Pons’s claim is “baseless and without merit.”
Interestingly enough, Pons was featured in a video from the team this April detailing how he created the logo that the Jets switched back to in 2024. Pons also explained that the Jets informed him they were returning to his logo, which he said made him feel “good.”
It feels like very interesting timing for Pons to sue over the Jets’ logo. He may be trying to capitalize off the logo’s newfound popularity or genuinely trying to get paid for the royalties on the logo.
Regardless of the lawsuit, the Jets arguably have one of the best logos in the league again and will have a chance to show it off this September.
