Haason Reddick gets an honorable mention in ESPN’s edge rusher rankings
On Wednesday, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler released his top 10 edge rusher rankings, the results of which were generated by surveying more than 80 league executives, scouts, and coaches.
New York Jets edge rusher Haason Reddick could not crack the top 10 but earned himself an honorable mention.
Fowler Stated, “Reddick closed out his seventh NFL season with 11 sacks, 38 tackles, 5.5 stuffs and one forced fumble.” An NFC personnel evaluator told Fowler, “He was still really good last year, probably the most consistent starter on the Eagles defense. The numbers weren’t as gaudy as they were the previous season, but he was an aggressive edge rusher who teams had to account for all four quarters.”
The Jets acquired Reddick at the end of March, hoping to replace edge Bryce Huff, who signed with the Eagles earlier in the offseason.
Entering his eighth season in the NFL, Reddick is a two-time Pro Bowler with four consecutive seasons of at least 11 sacks.
Joined by edge Jermaine Johnson and defensive tackle Quinnen Williams, Reddick joins one of the best defensive lines in all of football.
Is this a fair ranking for Reddick?
Some Jets fans might be disappointed in Reddick’s exclusion from the top 10, and I am with those fans. His production warrants a spot among the league’s top 10 edge rushers.
Reddick has shown nothing short of dominant play for the past four seasons, recording at least 11 sacks each year. His 50.5 sacks since 2020 are the fourth-most in the NFL over that span. He also leads the league with 13 forced fumbles since 2020.
Despite these achievements, Reddick has not been spotted at Florham Park this offseason. Reddick is believed to be holding out due to his current contract, which only has one year remaining.
It remains to be seen whether Reddick will report for the start of training camp after missing mandatory minicamp. Veterans are set to report for camp on July 23.
Whenever he shows up, the Jets will get one of the most productive edge rushers in the NFL. Reddick is poised to shine for the Green and White in 2024.
