During his first media availability of training camp, Robert Saleh spoke about Haason Reddick’s absence and Aaron Rodgers
Following the first practice of training camp, New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh addressed some of the most significant topics surrounding the team.
Saleh discussed Haason Reddick’s continued absence from the team.
“It is what it is. That’s the business part of it. We just have 89 other guys that we have to prepare.”
The head coach added that he is not overly concerned about Reddick being ready to play when he arrives at camp and that he does not know when Reddick will report to camp.
“H’e a veteran. He’s been with multiple teams and played multiple positions. He’s had success in multiple ways at this point in his career. I’m sure he knows exactly what he needs to do to prepare himself to play football.”
Saleh acknowledged that, due to Reddick’s absence, he is “excited ” to see Will McDonald, Takk McKinley, and Micheal Clemons get extended opportunities to play and try to get onto the field.
Regarding quarterback Aaron Rodgers, Saleh said he “moved around really good” and can still “sling it.” He also spoke about Rodgers setting the standard for other players and leaders on the team.
“He is a vocal leader. He’s a guy that everybody looks to for leadership on the football field. Aaron is fantastic; I’ve said before, he’s an unbelievable teammate. His wealth of knowledge and understanding of football makes him another coach on the field. So when he speaks, everybody is listening.”
He also addressed the team’s mentality, saying that the team has a more “business-like approach” and that the feel around the team is a lot “calmer” this year.
“We have been through it, last season with the hype machine and all of that good stuff. This year, guys are more locked in. It’s a different feel.”
Early on in camp, it is good to see Saleh keep the answers simple and to the point. The Jets have a vital season to play in 2024, and the head coach is making sure to keep the focus where it needs to be.
