One of the best cornerbacks in the NFL is learning firsthand how challenging it is to face New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

Appearing on NFL Network’s “Good Morning Football,” Sauce Gardner explained why it is “so hard” to pick off the future Hall-of-Fame quarterback in practice.

“I’m going to be honest, it’s so hard to intercept him. He doesn’t throw interceptions. He is one of those quarterbacks that can put the ball exactly where he wants. He’s going to throw it to where only the receiver can catch it. I have long arms, and when I’m in good position, the worst I can do is PBU it. But it’s even hard to do that going against him,” said Gardner.

“As a defense, we call him a liar because, a lot of times, where he is looking is not where the ball is going. He helps the whole defense out with better eye discipline and just makes us better each and every day.”

For Gardner, it is a world of difference practicing against Rodgers as opposed to previous quarterbacks.

With his experience as a player and command of the offense, Rodgers brings a level of competition toward Gardner and the defense that is only matched by a handful of quarterbacks in the NFL. The cornerback has to have borderline-perfect coverage on almost every play; if he does not, Rodgers will find an opening. The same goes for the defensive line, linebackers, and the rest of the secondary.

As challenging as facing Rodgers is for the defense, it will only benefit them heading into the 2024 season. Pressure creates diamonds, and by being tested daily by Rodgers, the defense should be ready to roll in 2024.
