According to Jamien Sherwood, one New York Jets player shares a namesake to a classic Jay-Z album.

During his media availability, the fourth-year linebacker spoke about fellow linebacker C.J. Mosley and why he sees him as a “blueprint” to follow.

“Just everything. You guys all know I used to play safety, so having that chance to sit back behind him all these years, I’ve learned everything,” Sherwood said of Mosley. “Whether I ask him or don’t ask him, watching is just as good as that. The way he moves, the way he talks, the way he learns. He doesn’t say much in the meeting room, but you can tell from the tape that he should be in the Hall of Fame sooner rather than later. I can give him all the credit.”

Sherwood also spoke about what drives him to improve as a player.

“It’s about consistency. It’s about feeding my family. So it’s about whatever chance I get. I just got to go in with that mindset of, I’m doing this to take care of my family. It’s not only about me; it’s my love and regard for the man next to me and his family as well,” said Sherwood.

“And again, you know, it gets tiring, it’s hard, but the man next to me, my mom, you know, that’s always the first thing in my mind. So I got no choice but to go out there and do my best every day.”

Head coach Robert Saleh also spoke about Sherwood during his press conference on Monday.

“Yeah, Sherwood, he’s one of those ones where if you’re Coach [Mike] Rutenberg, you’re talking about that one for a long time. He came in here, he was drafted as a safety on day three knowing that we can pour our heart and soul into him and help him become a linebacker. He had the Achilles tear, and every single year he’s gotten better and better and better. He’s increased his weight, his IQ, his speed, his strength, and his mindset. Just like Jermaine [Johnson], it’s a mindset to get better day in and day out. But this dude, he’s a hell of a linebacker.”

Similar to Quincy Williams last season, it seems that Sherwood is ready to break out as a player in 2024. He has put his training and mindset to good use, looking like one of the best players on defense up to this point in camp. Sherwood has defended the run and pass at a high level against some of the best players on the Jets’ offense.

Saleh has had a great track record developing defensive talent, and if Sherwood can translate his strong training camp to live action, it will be yet another win for Saleh’s resume as a talent developer.
