Many of the team’s lower-depth options from the preseason made the practice squad. Jarius Monroe and Jaylen Key made it at safety, while Bruce Hector and Jalyn Holmes made it at defensive line. Kohl Levao was one of the most notable names to make it from the offensive line depth. Sam Eguavoen made it after playing a key role on special teams last season, and Brandon Smith made it after some notable contested catches in the preseason. Furthermore, Tre Swilling is back after some solid special teams and cornerback play in the preseason.

Quarterback Adrian Martinez arrives back to the Jets as their likely third quarterback. Even on the practice squad, the former Nebraska and UFL product earned the role by making a significant impact with his play.

One notable absence is safety Lewis Cine, who was reportedly signed to the team’s practice squad. This could mean New York has decided to elevate the former Georgia product to the active roster, which could result in a corresponding transaction.

Overall, there is nothing too surprising from the initial practice squad. New York brought back players who narrowly missed making the roster and will now have a chance to develop them even further during the season.

The Jets’ full focus now turns to preparing for Week 1, which is just over a week away.
