Amid their roster cutdowns, the New York Jets placed multiple players on injured reserve.

The Jets announced that defensive tackle Leki Fotu, tight end Kenny Yeboah, and quarterback Jordan Travis were placed on injured reserve. Fotu and Yeboah were placed on the normal injured reserve, while Travis was placed on the non-football injury list.

Travis’s placement on injured reserve is not surprising. He has not practiced all summer and looks poised to take a redshirt season in 2024.

Yeboah and Fotu’s injuries are semi-surprising. Once thought to be ready by Week 1, both players will be out for at least four weeks. In Fotu’s case, his snaps will likely be filled by UDFA Leonard Taylor III, who made the team’s initial 53-man roster. Taylor III has the talent to keep the interior defensive line performing at a high level alongside Quinnen Williams.

As for Yeboah, his replacement is a bit more uncertain. On Tuesday, the Jets cut all of their tight ends except Tyler Conklin and Jeremy Ruckert, and they do not have a third-string option. The likely scenario is that a player like Anthony Firsker makes it back to the practice squad and is elevated to the active roster in case of emergency.

Overall, these moves are not earth-shattering for the Jets. They have the depth and talent to fill minor absences on their roster. Even with no Fotu or Yeboah for the first few games of the season, the Jets should not miss too much of a beat to start their 2024 campaign.
