The Philadelphia Eagles selected Mills in the seventh round of the 2016 NFL draft. He spent the first five seasons of his career with the Eagles before inking a four-year, $24 million deal in 2021 with the New England Patriots as an unrestricted free agent.

Mills then agreed to a one-year extension with the Patriots last offseason, where he was converted to safety.

During the 2023 season, Mills appeared in 17 games, recording 45 tackles and a forced fumble. Mills was also lauded for his run defense, courtesy of Pro Football Focus, where he earned an 84.1 run-defense grade.

More recently, Mills signed a one-year deal with the New York Giants this past offseason. He spent the summer with them but was ultimately released in August.

Mills is entering his 11th NFL season. The former Super Bowl Champion has appeared in 103 games and has made 83 starts, and he has racked up 406 tackles, 53 passes broken up, and seven interceptions throughout his career.

It will be interesting to see if Mills earns any opportunities on the team’s 53-man roster since the Jets have a lot of depth in their secondary. However, it can not hurt to take a flyer on someone like Mills, as he is a veteran and has shown he is more than capable of stepping up when his number gets called.

NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reported that Mills recently overcame a calf injury, paving the way for his signing with the Jets. Known as “The Green Goblin,” Mills is set to wear green and white yet again.
