Jamien Sherwood knows the size of the shoes he’s filling.

“Filling in for C.J. Mosley, those are big shoes to fill. I feel like, as a defense, we were able to communicate, uphold the standard that he’s created for our defense. And, ultimately, as you saw, we played a great game on defense. There’s stuff we need to fix to be better moving forward. But I think we played well on Thursday night.”
Sherwood also spoke about how the season-opening loss against the 49ers helped the defense improve as a unit before playing the Titans and Patriots.
“For myself, there were things that I could have done better in that game to help us win or do whatever I needed to do to help us get a spark. But as a defense, we just knew that wasn’t us collectively. There were a lot of plays that we left out there that we could have done better. And, you know, ultimately, that’s helped us,” said Sherwood.
“Sometimes you need to get hit in the mouth to know what you got to do. But they played a good game that day. They capitalized on some of our mistakes. And our job going forward, like I’ve been saying, is not to repeat those same mistakes and to correct them as soon as possible.”
Starting in Mosley’s place on Thursday night against the Patriots, Sherwood played a career-high 98% of the Jets’ defensive snaps. He finished with five tackles and one missed tackle. In coverage, Sherwood was targeted four times and allowed three catches for only 15 yards with no first downs.
