New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers was not pleased with the officiating on Monday night – on both sides of the field.
Speaking to reporters, Rodgers gave his thoughts on the high frequency of penalties during New York’s loss to Buffalo.

“It seemed a little ridiculous. Some of them seemed really bad, including the roughing the passer on me. That’s not roughing the passer. We might as well play Sarcastaball if we’re going to call those things. And I thought the one on (Javon) Kinlaw was not roughing the passer either.”
Rodgers also gave his immediate summary of how he thought Todd Downing did in his first game as the Jets’ offensive play-caller.
“I thought he did a good job. We did a couple of different things, but thought he called a good game; we just didn’t execute very well.”
Rodgers also spoke about the team’s red zone struggles and getting the ball late with a chance to win.
“We had chances. We had a walk-in touchdown on Braelon (Allen), and we got a phantom holding call. Had a chance with G (Garrett Wilson) twice. I thought we had our chances. Yeah, it’s frustrating. I’m here to win those games. But we’ve got to be on our details. It’s little things every single time.”
Rodgers addressed the interception intended for Mike Williams at the media’s availability, specifically mentioning the location Williams was supposed to be at.
“It was two verticals. Allen’s down the seam, Mike’s down the red line. So, I’m looking at Allen, he puts his hand up, three guys go with him, so I’m throwing a no-look to the red line, and when I peek my eyes back there, he’s running an in-breaker. So, we just got to be down the red line.”
When asked about his concern for the rest of the season, Rodgers kept it very simple and straightforward.
“I think there’s concern, but that’s important. We need to get going. This was a golden opportunity. Some games you win in the NFL, and some games you give away. This was a giveaway. We were terrible in the red zone, missed two field goals, and didn’t convert on a two-minute drive. We had plenty of chances, had the momentum, had good drives, and moved the ball up and down the field. So, it’s disappointing.”
Rodgers’s next opportunity to right the ship for the Jets will be next weekend against the Steelers.
