The New York Jets have a disheartening 2-5 record following a 37-15 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Despite the poor start, All-Pro linebacker Quincy Williams believes the team is keeping the right mindset.
That mindset? To focus on “going 1-0.”

“The focus is always going 1-0; that’s the biggest thing. Not putting no pressure, nothing on nobody. That’s the most important thing. And then also being together, all is one, as far as offense, defense, special teams playing complementary football. So that’s the mindset. It’s not really the big win or a big couple of weeks. For now, the focus is going on against the Patriots, and they got a good run game, so really dialing into our run fits and things like that and helping this team win.”
Williams also responded to whether the team lacked energy going into Sunday night’s game, which other players had suggested when speaking to the media.
“As a player going into the game, I’m always excited,” Williams said. “Me, personally, I didn’t feel that way. Everyone is different, but the main thing is we all on the same page.
“Once we get our helmet on and we step on the field, the mindset is let’s go, whether it’s whatever music is playing in the locker room or halftime or whatever conversations you are having with your coaches.”
Williams insisted the Jets were playing with energy.
“I felt like, for the most part, we were,” Williams said. “There were a couple of things that didn’t go our way, but I wouldn’t say the way we started out, the energy wasn’t there. Because you also see highlights where good plays are made. Are you going to say the energy was low right there, too? That’s a personal thing on how he felt.”
Williams and the Jets aim to go 1-0 this Sunday as they travel to Foxborough, Massachusetts, to take on the division-rival New England Patriots.
