“The power of belief is a snowball that can start an avalanche.”
That’s what New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers said after the team fell to 2-5, believing they just needed one win to spark a turnaround. It took two more games, but they finally got it.
After a losing streak where they played abysmal football in multiple games and choked down the stretch in others, New York defeated the previously 6-2 Houston Texans by a score of 21-13, outscoring Houston 21-6 in the second half. While not a perfect game, the pass rush and passing offense finally came alive and led the team to victory.
Now, it is all about New York attempting to build off its latest win. Too many times, especially in this latest era of Jets football, the team has crashed and burned after a big win. Their inability to stack victories has played a big role in the team’s longstanding streak of misery and mediocrity.
The Jets’ latest chance to keep their season alive comes in Glendale against the Arizona Cardinals. The jumpstart NFC West opponent is contending for a division title, has a very solid roster, and is an overall fiesty team to play.
Can the Jets knock off the birds? Or will they falter like they have so many times before? Follow along to find out all you need to know about this week’s game.

Jets vs. Cardinals Game History
In a short matchup history against each other, the East Coast-based team reigns supreme over the West Coast team.
Out of 10 historical matchups, the Jets have a lead in the series 6-4. New York’s longest streak was six straight wins, occurring from 1978-2012. However, New York has lost the last two matchups in the series. They lost 28-3 in 2016 and 30-10 in 2020.
Jets vs. Cardinals Betting Odds (FanDuel Sportsbook)
Once again, the odds are very interesting ahead of Sunday’s matchup.
According to FanDuel Sportsbook, the Jets are 1.5-point favorites over the Arizona Cardinals. In terms of the moneyline, the Jets have -132 odds, while the Cardinals have +112 odds. The O/U is set at 46.5.
Arizona has been the better team this season, but it seems that Vegas sees New York as a sleeping giant. It is the second consecutive game where the Jets are favored by over a point against a team with a winning record.
We shall see if Vegas is correct once again, like last week’s Jets game against the Texans, or if they are burned by their continued trust in the Jets.
Jets vs. Cardinals Injury Report
New York Jets
- DL Solomon Thomas, Knee – Out
- LB C.J. Mosley, Neck – Out
- OL Jake Hanson, Hamstring – Out
- OT Morgan Moses, Knee – Questionable
- CB Michael Carter II, Back – Questionable
- OG Alijah Vera-Tucker- Ankle/Non-injury/Personal – Questionable
- TE Tyler Conklin, Ankle – Questionable
- LB Chazz Surratt, Hee l- Questionable
It is another laundry list of injuries for the Jets.
Linebacker C.J. Mosley will be out once more with his neck injury, meaning that Jamien Sherwood and Quincy Williams will continue to play the roles they have already this season. Solomon Thomas was a late addition to the injury report and is out, meaning that newly elevated Bruce Hector and Leonard Taylor III will play significant snaps.
On the bright side, the Jets are expected to have Moses and Vera-Tucker despite them being questionable this week. Along with John Simpson, Moses and Vera-Tucker will help fill out a fully healthy offensive line against Arizona.
Arizona Cardinals
- DL Darius Robinson, Calf – Out
- OL Jonah Williams, Knee – Questionable
- DB Jalen Thompson, Ankle – Questionable
The Cardinals are relatively healthy heading into Sunday’s game. The only player out is rookie defensive lineman Darius Robinson, a first-round pick who has yet to play this season due to his calf injury.
Jets vs. Cardinals Game Prediction
- Cardinals defeat Jets, 27-23
At the end of the day, this is not a great matchup for the Jets.
The Cardinals are a team that can run the ball in various ways. They can use James Conner all over the field, spell him with Trey Benson or Emari Demercado, and throw in the explosiveness of Kyler Murray, too. It is arguably the most comprehensive rushing attack the Jets have faced all season.
I like the Jets’ ability to throw in this game. I think Aaron Rodgers can make Arizona pay, and I think Garrett Wilson or Davante Adams could dominate. Heck, even Breece Hall could have a great game in store.
But the Jets have had one of the worst run defenses in football this season. Unless that magically changes in a West Coast road trip, I do not see New York winning this game.
Give me Arizona to win and cover, 27-23.
