Buffalo Bills fans go out of control with snowballs

Whereas New York Jets fans have little to celebrate, their rival fans in the AFC East might be celebrating a little too much.

While the New York Jets languish in the NFL basement, the Buffalo Bills revel in their fifth consecutive AFC East title. Bills fans may have taken that revelry a little too far, though.

During the Bills’ 35-10 drubbing of the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday Night Football, the home fans took to firing snowballs on the field. While this and of itself is not unusual in snow conditions, the timing was inappropriate.

While 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey was limping off the field with what appeared to be a serious injury, at least one snowball went by him. After the game, head coach Kyle Shanahan said McCaffrey could miss the rest of the season with a PCL (knee) injury.

On the NBC TV broadcast, another snowball was seen in the air as 49ers kicker Jake Moody attempted 33-yard field goal. The fan appeared to be trying to knock the football out from between the uprights.

Buffalo saw nearly two feet of snow before the Sunday night game, with snow steadily coming down during the contest. Multiple 49ers players struggled to keep their footing, while the Bills used the snow to punish San Francisco’s defense on the ground. In total, they racked up 220 ground yards at 5.8 yards per attempt.

At 10-2, the Bills currently own the No. 2 seed in the AFC behind only the 11-1 Kansas City Chiefs. They’ll seek to finally get over the hump and win the first Super Bowl in franchise history.
