Less than 30 minutes after the New York Jets’ 26-21 loss to the Seattle Seahawks, cornerback D.J. Reed took to social media to blast the officiating crew with a vulgar post.
Reed was called for one penalty on Sunday, a defensive holding call in the first quarter, but the Jets as a team were called for 12 penalties in the defeat. That includes eight penalties in the fourth quarter, five of which came on Seattle’s go-ahead touchdown drive to win the game.

During the Seahawks’ winning drive, they attempted to go for it on fourth down twice and came up short both times, but penalties by defensive lineman Solomon Thomas and rookie cornerback Qwan’tez Stiggers extended the drive. This allowed running back Zach Charbonnet to march into the end zone, which turned out to be the game-winning touchdown with 5:34 to play in the fourth quarter.
The Jets were up 21-6 in the first half before allowing 20 unanswered points to close the game. Penalties were a large part of the collapse, and it seems Reed did not agree with many of the calls. Clearly in distress following the loss to his former team, Reed took to social media to blame the officials.
Ultimately, Reed’s frustration boiled over following the Jets’ latest close loss in a long line of them. However, the leaders of this team need to take more accountability instead of going online to deflect blame. Reed has been one of the Jets’ best players this season and should know better. A fine will likely be coming his way soon.
