Let the rumors begin.
With five weeks remaining until the New York Jets officially begin their search for a new head coach and general manager, some big news has dropped regarding one of the Jets’ top rumored candidates for the HC position. According to ESPN’s Rich Cimini on his “Flight Deck” podcast, former Tennessee Titans HC Mike Vrabel has told people he is open to the Jets’ HC job if he approves of the GM hire.
Cimini added that Vrabel is not bothered by what his former longtime HC, Bill Belichick, thinks of Jets owner Woody Johnson, and is open to taking an interview and making his own decision.

Since the Jets fired Robert Saleh ahead of their Week 6 game, Vrabel has been one of the most commonly mentioned potential candidates for the Jets’ opening.
Vrabel coached the Tennessee Titans for six seasons from 2018-23 and led them to two division titles, including a run to the AFC championship game in 2019. He was credited for reshaping the Titans’ culture and turning Tennessee into a notoriously physical team in the trenches on both sides of the ball, which is precisely the formula needed for a Jets team that desperately needs an injection of attitude.
After being fired by Tennessee following the 2023 season, Vrabel landed with the Cleveland Browns as a consultant. While it is not confirmed whether he plans to interview for HC jobs in 2024 (or whether the Jets plan to interview him), he figures to be one of the most appealing candidates on the market thanks to his experience and reputation.
