Even the New York Jets’ fanbase cannot stay out of drama.
In New York’s latest loss to the Seattle Seahawks, Jets superfan “Fireman” Ed Anzalone was not shown on the MetLife Stadium jumbotron during the team’s iconic Jets chant, marking the second time that has happened this season. This chant has long been a staple of the game day experience.
Appearing on “The Jake Asman Show,” Anzalone addressed the strange situation.
“I don’t give a s*** if they put me on the screen or not,” the superfan said on Friday. “The bottom line is home-field advantage; that’s the only reason. Now, let me give props to Scotty and JetMan because they were on there and were doing the right thing, keeping the tradition alive by doing the Jet chant.”
Anzalone suggested he was taken off the screen due to his comments about owner Woody Johnson.
“What happened on Sunday was I was on your show, and your producers made a shorty, and we talked about Woody,” Ed said. “And you know, they didn’t hear the whole context; they only heard the short because this is what we do in life. We don’t watch podcasts; we watch shorties. Shorties are much better because we just watch and move on to the next thing, and the next thing, and the next thing. So, they saw me say that Woody is senile.
“Now let’s get it straight, this is not to kiss ass at all; this is just factual. I love what Woddy and Chris do. I told you what I thought of them as far as they’re not 24/7, 365. That doesn’t mean they’re not good guys, and they’re not trying to win… This is not the way I grew up; we grew up differently. When there were issues and things happened, we take care of it. It is taken care of.”
This comes after the superfan revealed in an Instagram post that he felt he was getting “phased out” by the organization following the Jets’ Week 6 loss to the Buffalo Bills.
