After trailing 13-7 at the break, a relentless second-half comeback ignited the New York Jets to a 32-25 road victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday, snapping their four-game losing streak.
Appearing on FanDuel TV’s “Up and Adams” with host Kay Adams, standout receiver Davante Adams revealed quarterback Aaron Rodgers’ halftime message to the team, featuring a hilarious line in which he encouraged his teammates not to play like “weenies.”
“He [Aaron] spoke to us, and he said were 3-10, and this freaking sucks,” Adams said on Tuesday. “It is what it is; we can either go out like weenies, or we can figure it out, pull it together, and find a way to make something out of the remainder of this year.”
“I mean, every time we look around the huddle and see who we have in there, it is heartbreaking that this is the position we are in, but there is still football to be played.”
After making zero catches in the first half, Adams erupted for 198 yards and two touchdowns on nine receptions in the second half. Adams spoke about how he managed to pull off the incredible turnaround.
“I guess I had to get my head out of my ass first, and it helps when you do that,” Adams said of his performance on Sunday. “And then, I had a drop earlier in the first half, right before halftime, and I got my hair pulled from the route, so when I put my head back, I couldn’t really find the ball, and I think that was my second target or whatever, and once we got back in there, get a few more grabs, stuff like this starts to happen, so you just need a few plays to unlock it and get in that flow.”
Through Rodgers’ inspiration, Adams did not play like a weenie in the second half, propelling the Jets to snap their four-game losing streak.
