Deion Sanders has added his two cents on the New York Jets’ general manager search.
In a post on social media, the Colorado head coach implored New York to hire Louis Riddick for their general manager vacancy.
“Jets, please don’t mess this up, and I pray this was an actual interview and not that other thing y’all do. This man deserves a REAL CHANCE! He is knowledge & Class personified!”
Riddick played defensive back in the NFL from 1991 to 2001, with his most extended stop being with the Cleveland Browns from 1993 to 1995. After retirement, he began working as a pro scout, eventually rising to serve as the director of player personnel for Washington (2005-07) and Philadelphia (2007-13).
After his tenure in Philadelphia, Riddick started working for ESPN as a draft analyst and broadcaster in 2013. He has also interviewed for other GM positions, such as the Lions in 2020 and the Steelers in 2022.
After years of working in the media and interviewing for different roles, Sanders evidently thinks Riddick deserves a chance as a general manager. He is not off base in that assertion; Riddick has shown a good eye for talent and evaluating players as an analyst.
Sanders, or Coach Prime as he is sometimes called, has major influence as a coach, particularly this year. Depending on where the Jets draft this year, they could have a legitimate chance to land quarterback Shedeur Sanders, Deion’s son. Furthermore, Sanders could try to get his son to the Jets if he supports what Riddick brings to the organization.
The Jets’ GM search is far from over, as they will need to vet many candidates before making a decision. However, if Riddick gets the job, he will have some interesting variables attached to him.
