While the focus has largely been on the New York Jets’ new coaching staff, the front office is just as important.
Since the Jets hired Darren Mougey as their general manager on January 25, there were no changes to the front office announced. Aside from firing Joe Douglas during the season, the Jets’ front office remained intact… until now.
The Jets have parted ways with two senior members of the front office.
Jets move on from Greg Nejmeh and David Socie
CBS NFL Insider Jonathan Jones reported last night that the Jets have parted ways with Greg Nejmeh, their former co-director of player personnel.
Nejmeh had been with the Jets for the last 16 years working in various roles. When Douglas arrived in 2019, Nejmeh was promoted to director of player personnel. However, he seemed to be falling out of favor as he was demoted to the co-director this past summer.
The Jets have also parted ways with David Socie, formerly the senior director of football strategy. Socie’s page has been removed from the Jets’ official website.
Socie was promoted to senior director of football strategy this past summer after spending the previous five years as the senior director of football administration. His primary responsibilities were advising Douglas on contracts, salary cap, and trades. Given the Jets’ struggles in these areas over the past year, his departure is not surprising.
A new era is starting in New York
The “new” New York Jets are coming together.
The Jets will likely add new individuals to fill these roles in the coming days. Little has been reported on who they may potentially be.
With the Senior Bowl over and the combine beginning later this month, the Jets must fill these roles quickly. The decisions made in the coming weeks will shape the franchise for the coming years.
