Well, at least he could squeeze plenty of golf into his most recent west-coast trip.
Former New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers was stopped by TMZ recently, and he was pretty chipper when answering a couple of on-the-run questions. Specifically, the future Pro Football Hall of Fame signal-caller revealed what he’s looking for in his next NFL team.
“If they want you … if they [have] a good team,” Rodgers said while walking to his car.
Rodgers, 41, spent two seasons with the Jets, during which time some controversy and plenty of losing ruled the headlines. After suffering a season-ending Achilles injury against the Buffalo Bills in Week 1 of the 2023 season, Rodgers led the Jets to just five wins in 2024.
Thanks to the Jets’ decision to “move on” from the veteran quarterback, Rodgers is essentially a free agent (provided his post-June 1 designation comes to fruition). How the Jets arrived at the decision to let Rodgers loose remains a monstrous conversation among fans.
New head coach Aaron Glenn isn’t shy about verbalizing his affection for Bill Parcells, a man who believed in not wanting “celebrity quarterbacks.” Glenn seemingly brings an old-school-type leadership attitude to the table as well, which leaves little room for the “extra stuff” Rodgers brings to the table, particularly from a hyper-focused media coverage perspective.
Earlier this week, The Athletic’s Dianna Russini reported that Rodgers, too, was eager to move on from the Jets, matching the organization’s possible fervor. Nobody knows for sure where the truth lies.
In any event, there are NFL franchises that have already been bandied about as potential destinations for Rodgers. The Pittsburgh Steelers, Las Vegas Raiders, and Tennessee Titans seem to be the leaders in the clubhouse.
What the New York Jets know for sure is that a new quarterback will be under center at training camp this summer. And, potentially, courtesy of Aaron Rodgers’s latest words, per TMZ, perhaps the Jets did lead the charge in “not wanting” the man.
But hey, if Aaron Glenn is the real deal, the New York Jets have a bright future, nonetheless. Improving the coaching quality is what was truly important this offseason.
