Mystery surrounds the New York Jets‘ intentions at No. 7 in the 2025 NFL draft, which can only be great for new head coach Aaron Glenn and general manager Darren Mougey. On Friday, however, news dropped that provides a little insight into potential prospects.
While speaking with reporters, Arizona wide receiver Tet McMillan revealed that he met with the Jets.
Per the New York Post’s Ryan Dunleavy—along with various other sources—McMillan revealed that he met with the Jets. Moreover, he used the word “lovely” when discussing the idea of potentially playing with (and/or opposite) Garrett Wilson.
Tetairoa McMillan, 21, is currently projected to be the first wide receiver off the board in April’s upcoming draft. Standing an impressive 6-foot-5 and weighing 212 pounds, he projects as a monstrous 50/50 big target who’s smooth enough to navigate NFL coverages.
Initial scouting thoughts on Tet McMillan
My initial scouting thoughts on Tet McMillan reside in the “caution” category. While, admittedly, I have yet to dig too deeply into his tape, I’m rather cautious when thinking about drafting a non-explosive weapon in the top 10.
It’s not that McMillan can’t be a great NFL wide receiver; it’s instead about his current projection.
While lanky and tremendously impressive in many of the tough-to-find areas, his explosion does not match my default top 10 criteria. For instance, last year, I had both Marvin Harrison Jr. and Malik Nabers comfortably in the top five on my big board, yet I was not a Rome Odunze fan as a top 10 choice.
However, McMillan does not even come close to approaching my “overrated” feelings on Odunze from a year ago. He’s a much higher-ceiling prospect who’s currently atop a mediocre receiver class—as it relates to the top tier.
Nonetheless, caution does remain—at least in the early going. There will be much more to come—in the coming weeks—with Jets X-Factor breaking down his Arizona game tape.
McMillan does fit the Jets’ offense
No matter what anybody thinks from a scouting perspective, Tet McMillan does fit a major New York Jets need. Other than Garrett Wilson, the cupboard is completely bare.
Wilson isn’t a big-bodied red-zone target. He’s much more of a Z/slot prototype who uses his shiftiness via 1v1 route-running. That perfectly complements a bigger target like McMillan.
At the same time, the Jets’ current depth chart features plenty of needs. Granted, it’s not nearly as bad as their 5-12 record from a year ago suggests, but plenty of holes need to be filled.
Plus, I’d be stunned if Aaron Glenn does not envision an inside-out roster-building template this offseason. Therefore, expect interior defensive linemen to rank high on the Jets’ franchise big board.
In 12 games this past season for the Arizona Wildcats, McMillan compiled 1,319 yards and 8 touchdowns on 84 receptions.
The New York Jets are slated to pick No. 7 in the 2025 NFL draft, which is scheduled to start on Thursday, April 24, 2025, at 8:00 p.m. ET.
