Jaxson Dart film session: No. 7 worthy? | NY Jets draft prospects

This Jaxson Dart film session analyzes his on-field play against the hype. Is the New York Jets NFL draft prospect worthy at No. 7?

Is there a better quarterback name than Jaxson Dart? With a last name like Dart, a father is forced into a great responsibility upon his son’s birth: The kid must learn how to throw the football.

Seriously, this name is equivalent to a left tackle named Anchor or a cornerback named Blanket. Regardless, a name is just a name, and a perfect name is meaningless in this game. (I’m a poet, and I never even knew it.)

With Aaron Rodgers gone, Aaron Glenn‘s New York Jets are in the market for a quarterback. Tyrod Taylor is rostered, and the Justin Fields rumors persist, but nobody would be surprised to see the Jets select one in the 2025 NFL draft.

That brings us to the man of the moment, the kid whose name tidily fits his position—which happens to be the most important in all of sports. Dart’s NFL Scouting Combine performance has him shooting up draft boards, but is he No. 7 worthy? Is he even worth considering in the first round?

Film Session Notes

This Jaxson Dart film session is video-oriented (with an audio breakdown on top) and contains plays in the double-digits designed to encapsulate my first look at the kid’s Ole Miss tape.

This entire film breakdown features only the Georgia game—a 28-10 Ole Miss victory on Nov. 9, 2024 (other Ole Miss game breakdowns are to come to Jets X-Factor). Per Dart, there are a number of positives and negatives, and more film analysis will be done on other games from this past season.

While physical attributes are critical, many of the harder-to-see areas of playing quarterback are what we’re after today.

  • How well does he maintain his composure?
  • How aware is he in the pocket?
  • How does he rebound from a poor play?
  • How well does he read defenses, and how prone is he to either playing conservatively or taking chances?

Let’s get into it …
