A couple of New York Jets players will have the chance to “run it back.”
For those who played at Ohio State in 2019 or 2020, the Jets’ free agency splash of quarterback Justin Fields comes with a reuniting-type feel.
The immediate suspect is wide receiver Garrett Wilson, who was a Buckeye from 2019 to 2021. While he caught passes from now-Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud in his junior campaign, Fields was his guy the first two seasons.
Unfortunately for Jets fans, Wilson remained quiet on social media Monday, which isn’t out of the ordinary for the non-social media-focused Jets wideout.
However, the other Jets weapon with Fields familiarity did chime in on day one of the NFL’s open market moving day.
Tight end Jeremy Ruckert may be a Long Island kid, but he was a Columbus young adult during his collegiate days. Becoming a Buckeye in 2018, Ruckert did his thing with Fields during the former’s sophomore and junior seasons.
Naturally, Ruckert could not hide his excitement about running it back—doing so on top of a touchdown connection in 2019.
Elsewhere, a Jets defender got in on the fun as well. EDGE man Jermaine Johnson put out a not-so-subtle yet not over-the-top post on X (formerly Twitter), allowing the emojis to do all the talking.
Another former Buckeye sent some love, too, as Fields’s flowers weren’t just limited to his now-Jets teammates.
New Orleans Saints wide receiver Chris Olave couldn’t be happier for his former college signal-caller. His fire-emoji post job on top of Fields and Wilson in black Jets jerseys says it all.
The New York Jets and Justin Fields agreed to a 3-year, $30 million deal with $20 million in guarantees earlier on Monday.
Speaking of the man of the moment, the last we heard from him, he was hanging out in Dubai. Now, it appears he’s celebrating his new contract in style:
Not to be outdone, Sauce Gardner also chimed in on this big football day. The two-time First-Team All-Pro cornerback made it clear that anybody who lines up across from him will find success.
That’s good news for the Jets newest cornerback, Brandon Stephens, who was signed to a 3-year, $36 million ($23 million guaranteed) deal on Monday.
