Both wide receiver Garrett Wilson and cornerback Sauce Gardner are looking for new deals with the New York Jets.
Their actions over the last few weeks since New York opened up offseason activities under newly hired Aaron Glenn shows as much. Both players, despite looking for deals, have been in attendance for workouts.
It’s a welcome sign that two of New York’s better players seem to be “all-in” on turning things around for the franchise.
Jets Stars Attend Voluntary Workouts
As shown in images shared by the Jets’ official X account, Gardner and Wilson are present at the team’s facility in Florham Park, N.J., for voluntary workouts.
Both of New York’s top stars were taken within the top 10 of the 2022 NFL draft. Both won the Rookie of the Year award on their respective sides of the ball.
And both are well worth the money they are being asked.
Wilson is the first receiver in Jets history to record over 1,000 yards receiving in each of his first three years on the team. He has caught passes from eight different quarterbacks in that span – an outrageous number that few receivers in the league ever match in their decades-long careers.
Gardner, on the other hand, is the first defensive back to be named a first-team All-Pro in each of his first two career seasons. While he is coming off a down year in relation to his dominant first two, the Jets are expecting a return back to his elite status in 2025.
Both Gardner and Wilson are looking for contracts that pay them over $30 million per year – or at least close to that total. While they are still a couple of years away from hitting free agency, it would make sense for the Jets to negotiate a long-term deal with each star sooner rather than later.
The fact that both have shown up to voluntary workouts is a great sign that they are willing to show their commitment to the team moving forward.
