Jordan Travis’ Jets future is in doubt
Few college athletes like New York Jets quarterback Jordan Travis have a bigger “what if” attached to their name.
Two years ago, the Florida State signal-caller had the Seminoles undefeated and was a potential lock for the College Football Playoff. A gruesome broken leg, though, changed everything for the 24-year-old.
What was supposed to be a potential second-round talent saw Travis fall to the fifth round of last year’s draft. In a new regime with the Jets, Travis’ future remains clouded.
The 2025 NFL draft was complex for the Jets at the quarterback position. The fact that they didn’t draft a single signal-caller could lead some to believe that the Aaron Glenn-Darren Mougey partnership has faith in Travis as a developmental quarterback.
When asked after the final day if that reality was fair, Mougey and the Jets were far less committal.
“I won’t speak on any of the players’ medical publicly right now,” Mougey told the media during the Jets’ NFL draft availability in Florham Park, NJ.
Travis spent the entire 2024 season on the reserve/non-football injury list. There was hope that a whole year removed from his broken leg could see him finally on the field during offseason workouts or training camp.
That may not be the case, though.
Travis went 29-10 as a starter in college with a career completion percentage over 62%, with over 8,600 yards and 66 passing touchdowns. He added an extra 31 on the ground as well. When fully healthy, Travis could have been drafted as high as the second round of the 2023 draft.
That didn’t happen, though. Injuries got in the way.
No one knows what New York’s plan for Travis is now. We don’t know if he’ll be healthy enough to participate in workouts.
While the Jets’ decision not to draft a quarterback in the 2025 process may indicate a willingness to evaluate the college star, their noncommittal status to him afterwards shows how complex this question really is.
