When Gary Vee speaks, New York Jets fans listen. Very rarely can something be that simple, yet this certainty rings true more times than not.
Infinitely tortured yet hopeless Jets fan Gary Vaynerchuk had something to say Wednesday morning, and he did so on NFL Network’s “Good Morning Football.”
“This is how big a Jets fan I am,” Vaynerchuk said (when asked to provide a Jets-fan state of the union). “This is one of the biggest launches of my career—I’m building the next Pokémon—and I’m more excited about a week from today because the schedule comes out.”
Gary Vee is referencing the NFL schedule release date of May 15, 2024. It’s when he can plan out the season by deciding which games he’ll attend.
Most Jets fans already know who Gary Vee is.
From humble beginnings, Vaynerchuk has always professed his love for the Jets. He’s been spotted by the cameras at the NFL draft, back in the Radio City Music Hall days, while maintaining a fixture Jets fandom status.
He was famously spotted in the crowd by ESPN’s cameras back when the Rex Ryan-led Jets drafted Mark Sanchez No. 5 overall in 2009.
Ah, the glory days.
Spoiler: The potential future “Jets owner” wasn’t happy about the pick.
Anyway, Vaynerchuk has since risen the business ladder incrementally to the point that he’s felt comfortable enough to announce his ownership ambitions. Though he has no designs on a hostile takeover or maliciousness towards current Chairman Woody Johnson, Vaynerchuk isn’t shy about vocalizing his dream to buy the New York Jets organization.
In April 2021, Gary Vee revealed a target date for owning the Jets, which was about 21 or 22 years.
What’s interesting about his “Good Morning Football” spot is how excited he seems about the 2025 version of the squad, particularly what they have in Justin Fields and Aaron Glenn.
“We took the best bet at quarterback because [he was] the only lottery ticket that was out there, so I’m thrilled about that,” Vaynerchuk stated. “We have now taken a first-round tackle in back-to-back years. … I love Aaron Glenn; I’m a diehard Jets fan, [so] I watched every snap of his career.”
We’ll all have to wait to find out how this coming season shakes out, but at least the unofficial “owner” of New York Jets fandom is ready to roll.
