Is Armand Membou reminiscent of a future Hall of Famer?
According to multiple NFL scouts, the answer is yes.
In his latest article, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler revealed intel on the NFL draft process of all 32 teams. Fowler noted that “multiple” scouts have seen shades of Jason Peters in Membou, the New York Jets’ seventh overall pick.
“The Jets went with Armand Membou, whose length and football traits remind multiple scouts I trust of a young Jason Peters,” wrote Fowler.
Peters made nine Pro Bowl trips and earned six All-Pro appearances during a legendary 20-year career. He is widely considered a future Hall of Famer.
Like Peters, Membou isn’t known for his length, but his unique blend of size and athleticism helped make him a top-10 pick in the 2025 NFL draft. It is the same makeup that allowed Peters to forge a two-decade NFL career as one of the league’s premier tackles.
The similarities are easy to spot. At the NFL Scouting Combine, Membou turned heads with a 4.91-second 40-yard dash at 6-foot-4 and 332 pounds, the fastest time by an offensive lineman measuring at least 6-foot-4 and 330 pounds since 2003. Meanwhile, back in 2004, Peters ran a 4.93 at 6-foot-5 and 328 pounds.
Both players had arms on the shorter side. Peters measured at 33⅛”, while Membou was slightly ahead at 33½”. Peters overcame the lack of length with his rare blend of size and speed; Membou hopes to do the same.
With Membou now in the fold, the Jets have solidified their starting offensive line for the 2025 season. Membou joins Alijah Vera-Tucker, Joe Tippmann, John Simpson, and Olu Fashanu up front.
Membou spent all three of his college seasons in Columbia with the Tigers, playing over 2,000 snaps, while allowing only three sacks. In 2024, the tackle also thrived as a run-blocker, earning an impressive 87.6 run-blocking grade from Pro Football Focus.
Darren Mougey’s selection of Membou marks the second straight year the Jets have taken an offensive lineman in the first round, following Fashanu in 2024.
If the Peters comparisons prove true, the Jets will have struck gold with the seventh overall pick.
