After an underwhelming 2024 season, trade rumors swirled around New York Jets running back Breece Hall, but head coach Aaron Glenn never blinked.
Speaking with reporters at the Jetsโ mandatory minicampโwhich included Jets X-Factor’s Robby Sabo and Nick FariaโHall revealed that Glenn personally reached out to him this offseason to reassure him he remains part of the teamโs plans for 2025.
โBreece, I donโt want to trade you,” Hall recalled of Glenn’s words during that initial phone conversation. “Youโre our running back.”
After a breakout 2023 campaign that saw him rank among the league leaders in scrimmage yards, Hall took a noticeable step back in 2024.
Despite a seemingly stronger offensive lineโdespite its apparent failure to catch the ball, as seen on Thursdayโthe running back’s efficiency dropped. The Iowa State product rushed for 876 yards, 118 fewer than the year before, while logging only 14 fewer attempts.
Hall’s 4.2 yards per carry marked a career low, and ball security became a concern as he fumbled six times, doubling his total from his first two seasons combined.
During the 2024 NFL draft, the Jets added depth to their backfield by selecting Isaiah Davis and Braelon Allen, both of whom are expected to factor into the rushing rotation. As Glenn stated at the NFL owners meetings, the team plans to take a running back-by-committee approach this season.
Hall, now entering the final year of his rookie deal, hopes to reestablish himself as the Jetsโ lead back and earn a second contract in New York.
To do so, he’ll need to recapture the play he showed in 2023, when he rushed for 994 yards (4.5 yards per carry) and added 591 receiving yards (7.8 yards per reception) as a dual-threat weapon.
