Who will be the New York Jets’ kicker in 2025?

After a 2024 season in which unreliable kicking cost the Jets multiple games, fans are eager to see stability at the position.

Speaking to reporters at the team’s mandatory minicamp, special teams coordinator Chris Banjo outlined what he values most in a placekicker.

“I would just say consistency,” said Banjo. “That’s the biggest thing, consistency, and how guys respond to tough situations or situations that may not have went their way. “

After retiring from the NFL in 2022, Banjo made a swift transition to coaching, joining the Denver Broncos as a special-teams assistant in 2023.

He inherited a unit that had consistently ranked near the bottom of the league, finishing 29th in special teams DVOA in 2022 and no better than 24th in any of the six previous seasons.

Banjo’s arrival sparked immediate progress. The Broncos surged to ninth in special teams DVOA in his first year on staff, then climbed to fourth in 2024, their highest finish in nearly three decades.

Throughout his two seasons in Denver, the Broncos tied the Dallas Cowboys for the NFL’s best combined special teams DVOA.

As training camp approaches, New York has two kickers under contract: Anders Carlson, who appeared in five games for the Jets last season, and undrafted rookie Caden Davis from Ole Miss.

The competition remains wide open. The Jets have also evaluated outside options, bringing in UFL kickers Rodrigo Blankenship and Harrison Mevis, as well as NFL veteran Michael Badgley, for workouts.

The Jets hope consistency finally returns at kicker under Banjo’s watch.
