New York Jets running back Breece Hall is entering a pivotal 2025 season as he looks to bounce back and secure a second contract with the team.
Given that, he’s found himself labeled as the Jets’ “make-or-break” player from Pro Football Focus.
“Hall has been the subject of criticism and trade rumors this offseason. Head coach Aaron Glenn recently shot the latter down, but Hall still needs a bounce-back campaign to secure a long-term future in New York,” wrote PFF’s Dalton Wasserman.
“He earned a career-low 62.0 PFF overall grade last season, though much of that seemed to stem from a lack of focus. Hall fumbled six times and dropped eight passes. There is a chance that he is a dynamic playmaker in a new offense, but there may be an equal chance that 2025 is his last season in New York.”
After a breakout sophomore campaign, Hall saw a noticeable dip in production during his third NFL season. Even with upgrades along the offensive line, the former Iowa State star struggled to replicate the efficiency that made him one of the league’s top dual-threat backs in 2023.
Hall rushed for 876 yards in 2024, 118 fewer than the previous year despite having only 14 fewer carries. His average of 4.2 yards per attempt marked a career low, and ball security became a concern as he fumbled six times, doubling the total from his first two seasons combined.
The Jets added to the running back position in the 2024 NFL draft, selecting South Dakota State’s Isaiah Davis and Wisconsin’s Braelon Allen. Head coach Aaron Glenn has already alluded to the possibility of a committee approach in the backfield, meaning Hall could face competition for touches as he enters the final year of his rookie deal.
It is also crucial that Hall starts fast in 2025, as reports indicate the Jets could explore trading the former second-round pick at the deadline if he struggles and the team falls out of playoff contention.
Hall’s future in New York depends on how quickly he can turn things around in 2025.
