Well, this is not what you want to see on the second day of training camp practices.
According to multiple reports, New York Jets quarterback Justin Fields was carted off the field during the second practice of training camp after suffering an apparent lower leg injury on a play during 11-on-11 sessions, where he was pressured.
Fields was able to get off the cart under his own power and walk into the facility.
Originally bypassed by the Jets in the 2021 NFL draft, where they selected Zach Wilson with the No. 2 pick, Fields slid to the Chicago Bears at No. 11. Now entering his fifth professional season, the former Ohio State star has finally landed in New York as part of a quarterback room hoping to rewrite the franchise’s narrative.
Fields arrives in Florham Park following a brief stint in Pittsburgh, where he was acquired via trade and started six games in 2024. He posted a 4-2 record, completed 65.8% of his throws for 1,106 yards, and tossed five touchdowns to just one interception before being replaced by veteran Russell Wilson.
With head coach Aaron Glenn and general manager Darren Mougey now at the helm, the Jets signed Fields this offseason as a calculated risk on his arm talent and untapped potential.
The severity of Fields’ injury remains unknown, leaving the Jets in wait-and-see mode as training camp unfolds. Glenn is scheduled to speak to the media later today.
For a team banking on his upside and versatility behind center, the timing is far from ideal.
Fields arrived in Florham Park looking to reignite his career, but now, both he and the Jets must brace for the possibility that his comeback may be put on hold before it even begins.
Tyrod Taylor, Adrian Martinez, and Brady Cook are the other quarterbacks on the roster.
