As seen in the New York Jets’ early training camp practices, Aaron Glenn is bringing a new culture of toughness and physicality to Florham Park.
What better way to facilitate that culture than handing the ball to a 235-pound running back?
Braelon Allen is expected to have a big second season in New York. Still only 21 years old, Allen showed promise in his limited role as a rookie. With Glenn hinting at the possibility of a committee backfield, Allen could have a chance to break out in Year 2.
In 17 games, Allen carried the ball 92 times for 334 yards and two touchdowns. While he only averaged 3.6 yards per carry, Allen was very effective in short-yardage situations, converting an NFL-best 11 of his 12 carries on third or fourth down with one yard to go.
Allen also caught 19 of his 27 targets for 148 yards and a touchdown. He displayed solid ball security, finishing the season with no fumbles on 111 touches.
Going into 2025, Allen will have fierce competition for opportunities in the Jets’ backfield. Breece Hall is aiming for a bounce-back year as the starter. Isaiah Davis also showed promise in his rookie year, albeit on a smaller sample size.
Where does Allen truly stack up in the Jets’ running back room? How big of a role does he deserve in 2025?
Only the film can answer those questions.
