The New York Jets are considering an addition to their quarterback room.

On Thursday, the Jets hosted Nathan Peterman and C.J. Beathard for workouts, according to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo.

The workouts come amidst uncertainty about the availability of Tyrod Taylor. New York’s 36-year-old backup quarterback recently underwent arthroscopic knee surgery to address an ailment that has plagued him in training camp.

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn ruled out Taylor for the preseason. Taylor’s availability for the regular season is unclear, although Glenn stated that “hopefully” Taylor will be ready for Week 1 against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Behind Taylor and starter Justin Fields, the Jets have two other quarterbacks, Brady Cook and Adrian Martinez. Cook is an undrafted rookie out of Missouri, while Martinez is a second-year passer who joined the Jets in 2024. In Saturday’s preseason opener, Cook took the field before Martinez.

Peterman, 31, is a former fifth-round pick (2017) of the Buffalo Bills. He last appeared for the Chicago Bears in 2023. The Jacksonville native has struggled immensely in the NFL, posting a 39.4 passer rating across 160 attempts. Peterman has thrown four touchdowns to 13 interceptions.

Beathard, also 31, was chosen by San Francisco in the third round of the 2017 draft. Last appearing for the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2023, Beathard is a much more competent option than Peterman, owning an 82.1 passer rating on 563 career attempts. The Iowa product has tossed 19 touchdowns to 14 interceptions.

Neither quarterback signed with the Jets on Thursday, so it remains to be seen whether New York plans to add another body to the room or if the team is simply doing due diligence.
