The New York Jets are not a finished product by any means, but that doesn’t mean they are through with acquiring talent.

The Jets announced that they have acquired former Cleveland Browns defensive tackle Jowon Briggs for a late-round pick swap. New York is gaining a 2026 seventh-round pick (via Buffalo) in exchange for a 2026 sixth-round selection.

Briggs was a seventh-round pick by the Browns in the 2024 draft out of Cincinnati. The Ohio native recovered a fumble and recorded 13 tackles in six appearances last year.

In college, Briggs registered 170 tackles and 12 sacks while playing for both the Bearcats and Virginia over a five-year run.

The 23-year-old joins a defensive line that recently welcomed back Jermaine Johnson, Quinnen Williams, and Byron Cowart from training camp injuries. He will be able to compete with other tackles like Leonard Taylor III and Payton Page for a final roster spot in the coming weeks.

It is unclear if Briggs will be ready to make an impact on the team in their preseason finale against the Philadelphia Eagles on Friday night.
