The New York Jets are doing their due diligence regarding the quarterbacks in this year’s draft class.

In addition to hosting Alabama’s Ty Simpson for a private workout on Friday, the team is expected to meet with LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier.

“Iโ€™ve got a lot of stuff coming up. Iโ€™ve got the Jets coming in the next couple of days here,” the signal-caller told NFL Network. “Iโ€™ve got the Rams coming into town. Iโ€™m heading out to Indianapolis. Iโ€™ve got Zooms every day, and Iโ€™m sure there will be a couple more visits in there. So, Iโ€™m just grateful to any organization thatโ€™s going to give me a chance.”

There was a lot of hype surrounding Nussmeier after an outstanding 2024 season, where he completed 64.2% of his passes for 4,043 yards, 29 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions while leading LSU to a 9-4 record.

Instead of declaring for the NFL draft, though, he decided to return to LSU for his fifth collegiate season and his second as a starter.

While his completion percentage rose to 67.4%, he was benched multiple times throughout the season and dealt with a nagging abdominal injury. The 24-year-old ultimately made nine starts for the Tigers, leading them to a 5-4 record while throwing for 1,927 yards, 12 touchdowns, and five interceptions.

However, he upped his stock at the Senior Bowl with an excellent week of practice while being named the game’s MVP.

Currently ranked 80th on Mock Draft Database’s consensus big board, Nussmeier is expected to be a third-round pick this year. The Jets currently do not possess a third-round pick, as they shipped theirs to Philadelphia in the Haason Reddick trade.

Whether fans like the prospects or not, the Jets are doing their homework on this year’s QB class.
