Since Tom Brady left New England, the Buffalo Bills have had a stranglehold on the AFC East, and the New York Jets could only sit back helplessly and watch the fellas from Orchard Park, NY rip off five-straight divisional crowns.

As the two teams get set for a Week 2 clash at MetLife Stadium, though, confidence is growing that the Jets may just be able to pull off one of the bigger upsets on the young season.

With Ed Oliver out, Buffalo is without one of its best defensive players. With many other stars banged up heading into the contest, there’s a path for New York to come away with a massive Week 2 win.

Of course, in a division where Josh Allen is the reigning MVP, those chances are still relatively slim.

The Jets have a secret weapon, though, and the organization hopes to use it to shock the Bills and turn the AFC East on its head.

Jets’ AFC East chances

Despite losing on kickoff weekend to the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Jets looked to make tremendous strides on offense as a collective unit and on their defensive line.

That isn’t what gives New York the hope they can beat Buffalo on Sunday, though.

In reality, MetLife Stadium has been something of a house of horrors for the Bills in recent years. While Allen is 5-2 on the road in East Rutherford, he has recorded just 12 total touchdowns and 12 turnovers in those games.

New York has had a plan to contain Allen, and they have done so beautifully at times. Even in the Jets’ 23-20 loss last season, Allen put up pedestrian numbers by his standards.

The Jets were a couple of missed field goals away from actually pulling out a victory.

Add in an engaging head coach in Aaron Glenn into the rivalry, and a team that has completely bought into his coaching staff, and the Jets are in a much better position than they have been in recent years.

“To me, I look at each game in itself, and say, listen, ‘I come to win every game,’” Glenn said before Friday’s practice. “It doesn’t matter, they all mean the same to me, to be honest with you. But I get the mentality of that because it is, it’s the quickest way to get to the playoffs is you win your division.”

Allen’s dominance in the NFL is going to make him a favorite in almost every game he plays. That’s the reality of the situation. No one should be surprised that the Jets are -6.5 point underdogs on Sunday.

But MetLife Stadium has never been kind to Allen or the Bills. That’s something the Jets could use to their advantage to even the score a bit in Week 2 and pull off an upset that would shake the entire division.
