With starting quarterback Justin Fields set to miss the New York Jets’ Week 3 matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers due to a concussion, veteran Tyrod Taylor will take over under center for his first start with the team. It also marks Taylor’s first NFL start since the 2023 season with the New York Giants.

Speaking to reporters this week, running back Breece Hall offered a unique description of the 36-year-old signal caller.

“Definitely an aura farmer,” Hall said of Taylor, describing the quarterback’s style on the field. “Tries to be cool all the time. He’s cool, fun to hang out with, a great dude. I’m excited that he’s going to be leading us this Sunday.”

Fields exited Sunday’s defeat after absorbing a heavy shot that sent him into the concussion protocol, and Taylor was put into action for the first time this season.

The veteran steadied the offense in garbage time, connecting on 7-of-11 throws (64%) for 56 yards and the team’s only touchdown. He also chipped in 21 rushing yards on three attempts.

With Taylor taking over Fields’ starting duties on Sunday, the second-year Jet will have an opportunity to lead Gang Green to their first win of the year on the road against the 2-0 Buccaneers. It is essentially a must-win game for New York as the team looks to avoid an 0-3 start.

Taylor owns a 28-28-1 career record as a starter. Against Todd Bowles-led defenses, Taylor has accumulated 10 total touchdowns and three turnovers while leading his teams to a 4-2 record.

An upset victory over Tampa Bay on the road would certainly give Taylor even more of the “aura” Hall is referring to.
