After suffering a knee injury during Monday night’s 27-21 loss to the Miami Dolphins, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, running back Braelon Allen has suffered an MCL sprain that will likely land him on injured reserve, which would force him to miss at least four games.
Rapoport also added that Allen is expected to receive additional opinions on the injury.
Prior to his injury on Monday night, Allen had logged four carries for 26 yards on the ground (6.5 yards per carry).
However, his momentum stalled when a Dolphins cornerback, Jack Jones, forced a fumble at the Dolphins’ three-yard line. Instead of a Jets touchdown, the fumble gave Miami possession at their own three-yard line, and they marched down the field to score a touchdown, extending their lead to two scores in the first quarter.
Breece Hall and Isaiah Davis remain the Jets’ only two healthy running backs on their active roster as Kene Nwangwu still recovers from a hamstring injury.
The Jets now face another significant challenge in an already difficult start to their season. Allen’s injury robs New York of their most physical ball carrier just as the team continues to lean on the ground game as their offensive focal point. With Hall carrying the bulk of the workload and Davis thrust into a bigger role, the Jets’ margin for error in the backfield grows razor-thin.
Allen’s injury leaves the Jets thin, but it gives Davis a prime chance to turn his early-career flashes into a meaningful backfield role.
