In the New York Jets’ laughable 37-22 Week 5 loss to the Dallas Cowboys, quarterback Justin Fields delivered an up-and-down performance.
“Not perfect, got some things to get better at, but that’s with everybody, we gotta connect with that shot to Garrett [Wilson] downfield, there is always room to improve for me and my play,” Fields said of his performance when speaking to reporters after the loss.
Fields finished the game completing 32 of 46 pass attempts (70%) for 283 yards, two touchdowns, and no interceptions while picking up 26 yards on the ground across seven carries.
While the numbers look great at first glance, most of his production came in garbage time. When the game was still in reach, Fields struggled. Most notably, he continued his tendency to hold onto the ball for too long, contributing to his taking five sacks for a loss of 49 yards.

Fields acknowledged he must be sharper, particularly on downfield attempts. The reality is apparent: if the Jets hope to string together wins, their quarterback has to elevate his play and carry an offense with virtually no margin for error.
At this point, with the Jets tied up in an 0-5 start, fans donโt care about passing yards or completion percentage; they only care about wins. For Fields, anything less wonโt be enough.
